NJ Senate to Vote this Thursday on Religious Freedom and Marriage Equality!
The Welcoming Congregation Committee invites members, friends, and visitors alike to accompany us to Trenton this Thursday, January 7, when the NJ State Senate takes up the Freedom of Religion and Equality in Civil Marriage Act. This is an important piece of legislation which will extend to our denomination the right, currently enjoyed by many other denominations, to marry couples in a manner consistent with our principles.
If you would like to carpool, please call or send us an email. If you prefer to travel on your own, you can plan to gather with hundreds of other activists at 10:30 am at the State House at 125 West State Street in Trenton. We will march to the State House Annex (a two-minute walk) and then lobby legislators ahead of the vote.
The session of the full Senate is scheduled to begin at 2 pm, so be prepared for a long afternoon if you can remain in town that long. Seating in the Senate Chamber is limited, but in the past additional rooms have been made available to us, with an audio link to the proceedings.
You should be able to find parking at the Trenton Marriott's garage at 1 West Lafayette Street. The drive from our area is apt to take about 90 minutes in morning traffic.
